How to Upgrade Your Oral Hygiene
Beyond the daily basics, a few small refinements can lift your routine.

A bright, healthy smile is reason enough to look after your teeth, but it’s far from the only one, keeping your teeth and gums healthy matters for your overall wellbeing too. If you already brush, floss and visit us regularly, here are a few extra steps to take your routine up a notch.
None of these is dramatic; they’re small refinements that quietly add up.
Start brushing where it counts
Where do you begin when you brush? It’s worth making a habit of starting at the back of the mouth. That’s where debris most often lingers, so giving it your attention first, while you’re most thorough, helps make sure it doesn’t get a rushed once-over at the end.
Choose a soft-bristled brush
A medium or hard brush might feel like it cleans more effectively, but it can actually do more harm than good, wearing at enamel and irritating gums over time. A soft-bristled brush cleans well without that wear, and is the gentler long-term choice for your mouth.
Add tooth-friendly foods
Raw, coarse foods, think celery, pears, carrots and apples, can help scrub the surface of your teeth as you chew, clearing some plaque along the way. Working a few of these into your diet gives your routine a small natural boost between brushes.
Don't forget your toothbrush holder
Here’s one most people overlook. We all know to replace a toothbrush every three to four months, but when did you last clean the holder it sits in? Toothbrush holders can harbour a surprising amount of bacteria, so giving yours a scrub each time you swap your brush is a simple, worthwhile habit.
