Do you suffer from frequent headaches and neck pain or have trouble sleeping? If so, it might be due to a misalignment of your bite. In the field of neuromuscular dentistry, breakthrough treatment is available that connects the dots between malocclusion, headaches, facial pain and airway blockage during sleep.

At the TMJ Therapy Centre, we can provide neuromuscular dentistry that will give you a diagnosis and treat your particular problem, improving your quality of life. Research shows that your pain can be relieved by correcting your bite, which sounds simple but has the power to change your life.

The Symptoms of TMD

If you have temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction, referred to as TMD, you can experience a variety of uncomfortable symptoms:

  • A bite that feels “off” or uncomfortable
  • A locking of the jaw when opening
  • Clicking, grating and popping sounds in your jaw joint
  • Decreased hearing
  • Ear pain
  • Dizziness and vision-related problems
  • Headache, ear, jaw or facial pain
  • Neck, back and shoulder pain
  • Ringing in your ears
  • Swelling on the sides of the face
  • An inability to open your mouth comfortably

TMJ and Headache Solutions

If you have persistent headaches that aren’t helped by medication, it may be a sign that a more significant problem is causing them.

You may have temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder. This disorder can result in neck pain, jaw popping and clicking and sleep apnoea.

When a bite isn’t aligned properly, the muscles of the jaw are stressed and try to compensate for the bite. Once a correction is made, your symptoms will begin to disappear.

What to Expect

When you have your initial consultation, we’ll perform a simple test of your bite to see whether you have these issues. From there, we’ll discuss the proper course of action to resolve your discomfort permanently.

You may find that your TMD is cyclical and recurs when you’re stressed or excited. Awareness of stressful times can help you avoid the toll it can take on your jaw. When you have your routine appointments with our team, we’ll continue to monitor the health of your jaw joint.
